My foot has held fast to his steps; I have kept his way and have not turned aside. I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food. Job 23:11-12

I have been listening to a study in Job these past few weeks. In a message this week the teacher shared the verse above in emphasizing the importance of having a passion for God's Word. In these verses Job is saying that the words of God have kept his way sure and are even more important to him than food. The truth of God is what helped Job through all of the difficulties he faced, including the challenging conversations he was having with his family, friends and advisors.

This week's study reminded me of the importance of being in God's Word consistently as your source of truth nourishment. Without the foundation of God's truth, it is easy to let other things you hear day in and day out begin to influence your thoughts. In the Job study the teacher encouraged, "So keep feeding on truth. Keep reading the Word. When you persevere in this, you'll find that you're able to persevere in whatever situation you're facing, because you'll be able to turn to a promise of Scripture that holds you firm."

God's Word is our only source of truth, pure and unfiltered! As the psalmist tells us in Psalm 119:103-104, "How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way."

Let us continue to taste and see that the Lord is good! We will be blessed as we take refuge in HIM! (Psalm 34:8)
