Literacy Night

Hello All! I am interested in planning a new event for our school- a Family Literacy Night. My vision is stations for different ages/interests with a volunteer reader- staff, church members, parents, etc and kids can dress as their favorite book character to win a prize. We have at least one parent who is an author that could read her book also! Maybe we have some adult book discussion spots also...what ideas can you give me to add to our planning if you've done this event for varied ages.

We've had literacy nights at our school in New York and they were a big success. We had stations as you had mentioned and tied it in with a book fair (Scholastic). The children were also able to make a bookmark at one of the stations. We also had someone dressed up in a character costume like Clifford (we had Loukoumi because the author was a school parent) which was a big hit at the Photo Booth.

Intervention Manual

Hello fellow directors!

I have a book titled Pre-Referral Intervention Manual which lists every possible issue a child could have (academic and behavior) and then suggestions to try before referring the child for services.

I’m wondering if such a book exists specifically for early childhood.

Thanks!
