Has anyone had a college intern before? I have a student volunteer who wants to do her internship at our school. She attends Cal State Fullerton. I filled out the paperwork for the university to consider allowing her to do this. I’m looking for anyone that’s done this before. I want it to be a valuable experience for her. I appreciate any help or advice!
Thank you!
Susan
We have a Master Teacher on staff and her name is on the list at Saddleback so students who need to do observations and hours in a classroom call her regularly. They have a syllabus so she knows what the expectations are. You can also look into having one of your teachers become a Mentor Teacher through the state of California which they would get paid for. You can find information on this at https://cecmp.org/mentors/.
Getting set up with your local schools/universities is a great way to get possible employees on your campus . I have done this many times. Having a paid internship is a win-win for you and the student. I took the mentorship class from our community college for this purpose many many years ago. The university should have paperwork for you to fill out as the supervisor, the students are up to date on their immunizations and health status, it usually means they are at a point of having completed at least their 12 units, and they need to be fingerprinted and associated with you. They could qualify to su for you around their intern hours too! Go for it!
