Happy New Year Everyone! Currently, we are using a mix of curriculum but I'm hoping to stream line it a little bit. What bible curriculum does your school use and what made you choose it?
At Christ Brea, we use a mix of several curriculum. We used to use One in Christ A and B for our Preschool/Pre-K & TK kids, but when our K-8 adopted our TK students over to their side, they took the "B" curriculum with them. What I didn't like was the lack of core stories for Preschoolers not being covered during the school year (sometimes in the summer packets), like Jonah, Daniel, etc. So we have made up our own schedule each year, based on the holidays, calendar and incorporate One in Christ, Little Lambs One and Two, The Story (church bought this curriculum when the entire church & school spent 9 months going through it together), and things from many publications over the years. Its nothing written down, as I adjust it each year, but it is always my goal each week to share each story with the kiddos 5 days a week in a different way. This includes chapel on Wednesdays...whoever is leading our chapels (Pastors or DCE) will tailor their message to our weekly Bible story as well as the music director will pick out songs that relate.
We are using One in Christ for our preschool and the Infant Toddler version of One in Christ for our Infants, Toddlers and Twos. I like that there is one curriculum to cover all ages, and since it's Lutheran, there's no worries about any doctrinal issues. What I don't like is that each level are on different stories a lot of times. It's harder to make a cute calendar when there are three different stories going on.
Through the years we've purchased all of the CPH curriculum ("Little Lambs,""Faith Alive," "Voyages," "One in Christ," and "Enduring Faith"). In this way the staff have opportunities to select different activities as we do the same story throughout the center each week. CPH does a great job of outlining the Law, Gospel, and Sanctification (Holy Spirit filled obedient response) for each story. They give applications for science, math, circle time, etc. They also give ideas for parent partnership and staff devotions. The lessons from "One in Christ" and "Enduring Faith" are keyed to the "The Story Bible." We connect are congregation members by asking them to "adopt" a child/family for the year by donating $25 to purchase "The Story Bible." The congregation members name goes in the Bible so that our parents know someone is specifically praying for them. The congregation member gets a little card with the child's name to pray for. We've been doing it so long that we have siblings coming so we now have the congregation also do the same thing but we purchase "Little Visits at Bedtime" by Mary Manz Simon. It's truly amazing. The congregation loves to do this. Every year I have so many that want to participate that I have a waitlist in case I enroll more students during the year!!
