Program Information
We were created and designed to do life together. We live in family groups, go to school in classes and are embedded in communities. Conscious Discipline is relationship-based, and utilizes the School Family for its motivation system. Building a connected School Family is about creating a unified sense of relating to one another in such a way that we feel safe enough to experience conflict and use it as a learning tool. Join us as we learn together how to create caring, connected classrooms where children are valued as contributors. We will explore classroom structures specifically designed to meet the self-regulation and social-emotional needs of all members of your school.
Conscious Discipline Presenter
Nicole Mercer is passionate about empowering parents and educators with skills and information that allow them to bring the best of who they are to classroom and home. She has been integrating and practicing the skills of Conscious Discipline in her personal and work life since 2003. Nicole was an early childhood teacher for 15 years and has worked with elementary age children through summer camps and substitute teaching during the school year. Her passion for positive learning environments for children led to the opening of her preschool in 2006. Nicole infused Conscious Discipline® (CD) into her curriculum because it offered positive solutions for the struggles she faced as a mother of two young girls, teacher, mentor, and administrator. After four successful years of watching children, teachers, parents, and her daughters choose a better way through CD, she took the next step and became a Conscious Discipline® Certified Instructor in 2009.
Nicole’s engaging presentation style combined with her humor and willingness to share her own vulnerability and oops moments make trainings fun, enjoyable and the practices of Conscious Discipline achievable. Her enthusiasm, energy, and warm spirit are engaging and inspiring. Nicole provides tailored Conscious Discipline® workshops for parents, educators, schools and early childhood programs as well as one-on-one parent coaching and classroom management coaching for teachers and administrators.
Nicole holds a M.S. in Child Development from Florida State University. In her 15+ years in the field of early childhood education Nicole has presented at state and local conferences, provided workshops for private organizations and schools, webinars for Florida’s Office of Early Learning, was an instructor for “Mind In The Making” course at Tallahassee Community College, and was selected as a member of Florida’s Panel of Experts collaborative meeting for creating one set of four-year-old learning standards. Her professional roles include preschool teacher, administrator, early childhood specialist, and developmental screening coordinator.
